A Gem of an Idea!

When your kids are journal writing have them use small glass "gems" to mark the spaces in between their words. Each time they write a word they move the gem behind the word in order to leave a space, and then write the next word to the left of the gem. Tell them that they are magic jewels and will help them be super writers!

I like this idea. I have been having them use their fingers or a pencil, but using a jewel would be fun.

My friend Mary Bauer uses a tongue depressor and draws a face on the end of it. We call it Mr. Space. We thought of the rhyme:

Put my face in the place
Where you need to leave a space!

The kids totally love it!
